Override Fails: Fortunately, Rep. Cornish Will Feel No Shame

Category: Economy

by Dave Mindeman

This quote from the debate on the failed override bothers me.

Take a look at this,,,

Rep. Tony Cornish (R-Cornish) - "Nobody is going to make me feel shame today no matter how many times you mention 'God.' Don't pull the Bible out any damn time it's convenient. Pull it out when we talk about abortion or gay rights. I went to church yesterday, too. Just because I vote against the override, doesn't mean I'm any less a Christian."

Rep. Cornish, are you saying that the Bible has no relevance when it comes to a discussion of the poor? Are you telling us that your Bible thumping regarding condemnation of gays and fixation on abortion is the only "proper" (ugh!) use of that Book?

Nobody wants you to feel any shame. Nobody is saying you are less of a Christian regarding how you vote.

Minnesota can only hope for one thing from you. That you vote in the best interest of this states' citizens.

If you think that cutting off the health and welfare of the poorest members of this society is proper, then stand with your conscience.

If you think that helping the poor is not a message that your Holy Book discusses, then stand with your belief.

Personally, I would have a tough time standing with money interests versus the needs of the poor.

But then maybe my faith is just not strong enough. Obviously Rep. Cornish knows the true difference between right and wrong.

Thanks for the clarification.

DFL Governor 2010: Delegate Count Update #1

Posted: 03/01/10 15:31, Edited: 03/01/10 15:31

by Dave Mindeman

Again, I know that Minnesota Progressive Project is doing a running total already on this, but it can't hurt to have another source to look at.

The first update is listed below.

A big thank you to the county units that have passed along information...keep it coming. This is the county and senate districts I have been able to get so far...with totals.

Counties and SD reporting that I have currently:

Senate Districts: 5-18-35-37-38-39-43-46-47-49-58-59-60-61-62-
63-66.

Counties: Chisago, Freeborn, Goodhue, Grant, Hubbard, La Quie Parle, Lincoln, Nicollet,, Sherburne, Swift, Waseca, Winona,

That totals 413 delegates as near as I can tell; Totals so far:

Uncommitted.....163
MAK..................78.5
Rybak................68.5
Thissen..............42.5
Rukavina.............27
Marty.................22
Bakk..................10.5
Entenza...............2

This accounts for 1/3 of total delegates.

Now -- if anybody has additional information about delegate selection in district or county units not listed above, I'd very much appreciate a report. And please, if a delegate is from an uncommitted caucus, report it as such -- if you happen to know which way they are leaning it would be great to hear that, but do not report it as an official delegate for that candidate.

Send the information to my email: dmindeman06@yahoo.com

Thanks again.
